A Union for Advanced Practice Clinicians

Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (including Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Clinical Nurse Specialists) play an increasingly critical role in our healthcare system. While healthcare employers expect APCs to practice with a scope similar to physicians, APCs often find that they are not afforded the resources, support staff, or professional respect a primary care provider needs to be successful.

Some APRNs have reported being left to do the work of both physicians and RNs, pushing them to work long, sometimes unpaid hours to meet unrealistic patient quotas and stay on top of charting.

As regulations, employer practices, and public opinions continue to evolve, APCs have found that expectations on the job are shifting too. APCs can bring greater stability to their profession by negotiating strong union contracts. This starts with contacting IAM Healthcare to learn more about organizing a union.
